Why Android is so big?

Onstage at Google’s I/O developer conference, Sundar Pichai the CEO of Google announced that the Android operating system now has more than 2 billion monthly active devices. Also according to StatsCounter, in March, Android overtook Windows as the world’s most popular operating system in terms of total internet usage across desktop, laptop, tablet, and mobile combined.
By why Android is so big? Well, there are several reasons for that.
First, Android has a huge developers base with around 550,000 to 600,000 developers in 2016. Also, Java is a heavy factor as it is one of the most popular programming languages across developers and that means that a lot of them are familiar with the syntax and that way that things work in, even if their work targets on other platforms.
Another reason is the open nature of the system. Every company instead of having to develop their own OS and try to get developers using their platform they can just leverage what Google has already accomplished with Android. Using Linux as kernel for the OS and making customization easy, Android has attracted the biggest mobile manufactures in the world such as Samsung, LG, Sony, HTC and others. Even Microsoft has “accepted” the huge impact of Android by advertising is own cross-platform developers tools like Xamarin as the thing that will make Android better.
